Snowy Owl Sunday Update--April 20th, 2025

Our First Annual Multicultural Fair on Friday, April 18th was a huge success! It was amazing to see all our families with their passports as they learned and participated in cultural activities from around the world. We concluded the evening with our students showcasing their singing, instrumental, and dancing talents to our school community in our outdoor amphitheater.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the families who joined us on their world travels at our Multicultural Fair. Your presence and participation made the event truly memorable, and we are grateful for your continued support of our school community. A special shout-out goes to our dedicated staff, PTA, and volunteers for their outstanding efforts in planning and executing this memorable event.

Month of the Military Child

This week we will be honoring our military students and families with a spirit day each day. Show us your support by participating in the day, thank you for your service to our country!

In addition this Thursday, we will be hosting a parade and picnic for all our military families. We will have garden games and paletas for families to enjoy! Use the link below to RSVP for the event.

Snowy Owl Expectation Focus

Our goal at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all and hold students accountable for being positive forces within our school community. The Snowy Owl Expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout all grade levels and locations around campus. For the next two weeks, we will continue to focus and reinforce the expected behaviors for recess. We appreciate your support in asking your Snowy Owls at home what specific behaviors allow them to be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind at recess.

Spring Pictures

Our spring pictures are here! All Snowy Owls will have the opportunity to take spring pictures on Thursday, April 24, 2025. There is no need to purchase any photo packages ahead of time, but you can purchase the photos after receiving the proofs. We hope to see everyone dress their best for spring pictures!

PTA Updates

We need your help!

All board positions are open for 2025–26, and we must fill President, Treasurer & Secretary to keep our PTA going. Without them, we lose access to funds and can’t plan events next year.

Not ready for a board role? Join a committee (Membership, Fundraising, Events)! These roles are key to keeping things like book fairs, movie nights, and workshops alive.

CVESD University

CVESD University offers a dynamic learning experience for parents and guardians. The program aims to equip families with the essential tools to actively participate in their child’s educational journey, all through a fun and engaging format.

“Neurodiversity” is happening this Thursday, April 24, from 9:00 a.m. – 10 a.m. Families will learn about neurodiversity and the natural variations in the brain functions of children.
